Nominations for the 74th Emmy Awards were announced on July 12, 2022, and Image Engine is thrilled to receive two nominations for our visual effects work on Snowpiercer season 3 and The Book of Boba Fett. 

Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer is up for the ‘Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Single Episode‘ award for “A Beacon For Us All” in season 3.

Debuting in 2020, Snowpiercer is a TV adaptation of Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 post-apocalyptic film of the same name. Our team at Image Engine was led by Hannes Poser, visual effects supervisor, delivering 165 shots on episodes 1-5 and 8-10. 

“Being nominated means everything. All the work our Image Engine crew produced for Snowpiercer season 3, especially the nominated episode 9, was recognized among the best examples of great visual effects. I am incredibly happy and grateful,” Hannes shared. “It is also an excellent example of how much we care about building up and recognizing talent at Image Engine.”

“And I am appreciative of the experience with the clients, Geoff Scott and Darren Bell. They are exceptional in how much freedom and support they gave us. It feels like we are working with them and not for them. Sometimes you forget they’re in fact, the client,” Hannes revealed. 

“This Emmy nomination is a tremendous achievement for all of us. I can’t emphasize enough how much it means to me to have been part of this journey with everyone involved and how much fun it was.”

The Book of Boba Fett

The Book of Boba Fett was nominated for the Outstanding Special Visual Effects In A Season Or A Movie category.

For Lucasfilm’s Disney+ Original series The Book of Boba Fett, Image Engine returned to a galaxy far, far away for a third time, following the show’s predecessor, The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 with season 3 already in the works. Well-versed in the planets, creatures, and droids of Star Wars, the team had jumped into the fray to create Tatooine sand cities, jetpack-powered shootouts, and indomitable Scorpenek droids—all while working through a pandemic.

“We are fortunate to have such a collaborative partnership with the team at Lucasfilm. Without Richard Bluff’s leadership and trust in us, we wouldn’t have been able to produce the quality and the volume of work we were able to accomplish. Our team here really stepped up to this challenge and executed brilliantly on every shot, from the simple to the insane,” explained Robin Hackl, visual effects supervisor at Image Engine. “The collective work of all the studios across all episodes on The Book of Boba Fett is truly astounding and really speaks to what happens when collaborations work.”

Robin led the Image Engine team on The Book of Boba Fett to deliver 686 shots in Chapter 1 and Chapter 7. Contributions from the Image Engine team include a complex assassin attack with electrically charged shields and weapons, an epic shootout that occurs across almost the entire finale episode, and more.
