Tips & FAQs
Resume & cover letter
- These should be one page each. Keep it short and easy to read.
Demo reel
- Put your best work in the first 10 seconds of your reel.
- Your reel should be 30-90 seconds long.
- Your reel should be 480p minimum, 720p or higher preferred.
- Group your work by project and start each project with the best shot.
- Quality over quantity – we would rather see one or two well-executed shots than ten average ones.
- Make sure your reel is easily accessible and that you include a password if there is one. Video sharing sites such as Vimeo are recommended.
- Provide a PDF or include short text captions within the reel to describe what you did in the shot and what project it is from.
- Including Breakdowns, WIP montages, passes, etc. will help to illustrate your work.
- Only include work you actually did yourself.
What if the role I’m looking for is not listed?

Regardless of the level that you consider yourself to be, we pride ourselves at Image Engine for thinking outside the box and being open minded in terms of a candidate’s background. There’s potential if you are passionate, motivated, and a good fit for the team. We consider candidates at all levels, including recent graduates, so it’s worth submitting an application. Don’t be shy to apply!
Can I apply for more than one job at a time?

Do you offer internship opportunities?
If you are interested in internship opportunities, please fill out a general speculative application. Currently, Image Engine does not have an internship program and each application will be assessed on an individual basis.
Do I have to be living in Vancouver to work at Image Engine?
Yes, even if you are working remotely from home, you must be physically living in British Columbia, Canada. This is required in order for our clients to receive BC tax credits, as well as for security and technology reasons.
I am not authorized to work in Canada, can I still apply?
Regardless of where you live in the world, Image Engine is interested in hiring the best talent. Our studio currently employs talented people who have come from around the globe and we love the diversity in our crew!
In order to be eligible for a position at Image Engine, you must match the requirements for the work permit sponsorship, hold an open work permit, be on a working holiday visa, or be a permanent resident/citizen of Canada. Depending on the country you are coming from, there may be different eligibility requirements for years of experience, skills, and level of education. Unfortunately, internships/junior/entry-level positions are typically not eligible for work permits. Learn more about work permits from the Government of Canada.
