Tips & FAQs

Resume & cover letter

  • Your cover letter should be 1 page and your resume should be 2 pages maximum. Keep them short and easy to read.

Demo reel

  • Put your best work in the first 10 seconds of your reel.
  • Your reel should be 30-90 seconds long.
  • Your reel should be 480p minimum, 720p or higher preferred.
  • Group your work by project and start each project with the best shot.
  • Quality over quantity – we would rather see one or two well-executed shots than ten average ones.
  • Make sure your reel is easily accessible and include a password if there is one. Video sharing sites such as Vimeo are recommended.
  • Provide a PDF or include short text captions within the reel to describe what you did in the shot and what project it is from.
  • Including breakdowns, WIP montages, passes, etc. will help to illustrate your work.
  • Only include work you actually did yourself.

What if the role I’m looking for is not listed?

You can submit a general speculative application if you don’t see an open position that suits you. This allows you to share your knowledge, skills, and experience with us without applying to a specific job. Our hiring needs are always changing so we’d love to hear from you. You can also sign up for our newsletter to stay informed on future job openings.

I don’t meet the requirements for a position. Should I still apply?

Regardless of the level that you consider yourself to be, we pride ourselves at Image Engine for thinking outside the box and being open minded in terms of a candidate’s background. There’s potential if you are passionate, motivated, and a good fit for the team. We consider candidates at all levels, including recent graduates, so it’s worth submitting an application. Don’t be shy to apply!

Can I apply for more than one job at a time?

Of course you can! We want to know what interests you. If you feel you have the skills, please apply to all relevant positions. If you’re unsure which role is the best fit for you, submit your application and we can discuss further.

I applied for this role in the past, do I need to apply again?

Yes, it’s a good idea to reapply even if you have applied for the role previously. Your experience and contact details may have changed.

Do you offer internship opportunities?

In the past, we have occasionally offered internships based on departmental needs and training availability, but it is uncommon. If you are interested in an internship with us, you can submit a general speculative application, and we will keep your information on file for future consideration.

When will hear back about my application?

We thank you for your interest in joining our team and we appreciate your patience throughout our hiring process. Once you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email to acknowledge that your application has been successfully added to our system and will be reviewed. Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we will only reach out to candidates if we are moving forward with an interview.

Do I have to be living in Vancouver to work at Image Engine?

Yes, even if you are working remotely from home, you must be physically living in British Columbia, Canada. This is required in order for our clients to receive BC tax credits, as well as for security and technology reasons.

I am not authorized to work in Canada, can I still apply?

Regardless of where you live in the world, Image Engine is interested in hiring the best talent. Our studio currently employs talented people who have come from around the globe and we love the diversity in our crew!

In order to be eligible for a position at Image Engine, you must match the requirements for the work permit sponsorship, hold an open work permit, be on a working holiday visa, or be a permanent resident/citizen of Canada. Depending on the country you are coming from, there may be different eligibility requirements for years of experience, skills, and level of education. Unfortunately, internships/junior/entry-level positions are typically not eligible for work permits. Learn more about work permits from the Government of Canada.
