Ross Duncan McCabe

Visual Effects Supervisor

Ross Duncan McCabe is a visual effects supervisor at Image Engine with over 16 years of experience. With a technical foundation in the 3D pipeline and a specialization in creature and character work, Ross brings a well-rounded and strategic approach to leading complex visual effects projects, such as his current production, Tron: Ares.

Working closely with clients to translate creative vision into compelling on-screen results, Ross is known for his collaborative leadership style and his ability to guide teams through complex creative challenges with clarity and precision.

Before joining Image Engine, Ross was a visual effects supervisor at Framestore on Deadpool
& Wolverine, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a standout project involving extensive cross-site collaboration. Prior to that, he held roles at Method Studios, including associate VFX supervisor, DFX supervisor, lighting/lookdev supervisor on Thor: Ragnarok and CG supervisor on Ford v Ferrari, where he helped build a sequence-driven pipeline from the ground up. Earlier experience includes supervision roles at MPC Commercials and MPC Film, following his early career as a generalist at The Mill and in freelance, with a focus on modelling, texturing, and look development.

Originally from South Africa, Ross studied finance and business management at the University of Johannesburg before completing his honours in marketing and branding. His background in investment banking gives him a strong understanding of budget management and production strategy, skills that enhance his effectiveness as a creative and logistical leader. Growing up on a nature reserve also sparked his lifelong love of animals, which continues to inspire his passion for creature-driven VFX.

When he’s not supervising on set or in the studio, Ross can be found on the squash court or awake at dawn to watch South African rugby. He brings energy and focus to every production, motivating his teams and helping create high-calibre results on screen.
