With over fifteen years in the computer graphics industry, Barry Poon has earned a first-class reputation for his excellent management skills, technical expertise and creative direction.
After graduating from Vancouver Film School in 1997, Barry began his career working at several local visual effects houses before moving to Radical Entertainment and Bardel Entertainment. There he worked on games, TV, and feature film projects such as the Elan Award-winning 3D television series, Zeke’s Pad and high-end cinematics including Hulk and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
Starting out as a generalist, Barry became a CG Supervisor in 2004 and worked his way up to Head of CG at Bardel Entertainment on Zeke’s Pad by 2007. There he designed and maintained the production pipeline and had direct input into the development of a proprietary asset tracker for the company. At this time, he also managed a team of 60 artists, including supervisors and leads in all CG-related departments.
At Goldtooth Creative, Barry helped develop the workflow for long-format productions from 2010-2011 while continuing to manage supervisors and leads across multiple projects. These ranged from short teaser trailers such as SSX: Deadly Descents and Mortal Kombat webisodes, to over 60 minutes of in-game cinematics including Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions and Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
Barry joined the Image Engine team in 2011 as the studio’s Asset Supervisor, now called Head of Assets. He has most recently contributed to projects such as Zero Dark Thirty and Elysium, for which he was nominated for a VES award for Outstanding Created Environment in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture.
Barry’s work touches on basically every project at Image Engine, including The Mandalorian seasons 1-3, Willow, The School for Good and Evil, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Moon Knight, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, Snowpiercer, The Book of Boba Fett, Hawkeye, Mulan, Game of Thrones, Independence Day Resurgence, KINGSGLAIVE: FINAL FANTASY XV, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Power Rangers, Logan, and Lost in Space seasons 1 & 2, among many more titles.
