Barry Poon

Head of Assets

With a career in computer graphics spanning since 1998, Barry Poon is head of assets at Image Engine and known for his strong leadership, technical expertise, and creative direction. Throughout his career, he has led teams, helped shape production workflows, and contributed to the development of scalable asset and pipeline solutions across complex visual effects projects.

Barry joined Image Engine in 2011, where he has played a key role in building and overseeing asset workflows across all of the studio’s film and episodic productions. His work has helped support the delivery of high-quality visual effects for the studio, contributing to its growth and evolution over time. 

His work has been recognized with a 2020 Leo Award nomination for Best Visual Effects in a Short Drama for Alien: Ore and a 2014 VES Award nomination for Outstanding Created Environment in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture for Elysium (“Torus”).

Prior to Image Engine, Barry held CG supervisor roles at studios, including Bardel Entertainment and Goldtooth Creative, where he managed teams and contributed to the development of pipelines and workflows for both television and interactive projects.

He began his career after graduating from Vancouver Film School, gaining early experience across visual effects, animation, and game production before progressing into leadership roles within the industry.
