Sepp Sonntag brings over 12 years of experience in visual effects for blockbuster feature films to his role as Generalist Supervisor at Image Engine. Sepp’s focus is on conceptualizations, pre and post visualization and rapid prototyping.
Hailing from Munich Germany, Sepp knew from a young age that he had a passion for film and especially for visual effects. Graduating with a Master of Arts degree in 2007 from IFOG Akademie, Sepp started his professional career as a Junior Matte Painter with Scanline VFX. His first international credits include Roland Emmerich’s 2012 and Ghost Writer.
In 2009 Sepp moved to London to take the next step in his career, eventually rising through the ranks to become Matte Painting Lead for The Moving Picture Company (MPC), where he contributed to such shows as X-Men: First Class, Wrath of the Titans, Total Recall, Jack the Giant Slayer, Man of Steel, and The Lone Ranger.
In 2012 he was given the opportunity to transfer to MPC’s Vancouver studio, where he became Environment Supervisor. In this capacity, Sepp lent his expertise to Godzilla, Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad and The Mummy.
With a long list of credits to his name, Sepp considers his career highlights to include working for LegendaryStudios’’ Godzilla: Kind of the Monsters as a VFX Plate Unit Director and supervising a photography unit in Hong Kong for Ghost in the Shell.
Sepp joined Image Engine in 2018 as Environment Supervisor and, in that role, completed work on Spider-Man: Far From Home, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, The Mandalorian: Season 1, Lost in Space: Season 2 and The Twilight Zone. Sepp transitioned to Generalist Supervisor in 2020.
