Okan Ataman brings 27 years of experience to his role as Compositing Supervisor at Image Engine.
Okan graduated with a Bachelor’s of Industrial Design and then received his Masters in Motion Pictures and Television in 1994.
In the final semester of his Masters, Okan began a three-month internship at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) in the electronic editorial department, which turned into a 20-year career with the studio. While at ILM, Okan progressed from Technical Assistant and Flame Artist to Senior Compositor. In 2011, Okan relocated to the ILM Singapore office to work as a Compositing/Sequence Supervisor.
During Okan’s tenure with ILM, he contributed to many projects, including Deep Impact, Star Wars Episodes I and II, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Transformers, and Pacific Rim.
Okan moved back to North America in 2014, when he joined Scanline Vancouver as a Compositing Supervisor. While at Scanline, Okan worked on titles such as Game of Thrones and Ben-Hur.
In 2016, Okan took a break from the industry to pursue his lifelong dream of slow overland travel. Over the next three years, he and his family drove from Vancouver to Ushuaia, Argentina, and back again in a truck camper. At the end of this incredible journey, Okan was ready to jump back into visual effects with a renewed passion and joined Image Engine as a Compositing Supervisor to work on Lost in Space: Season 2.
In his current role, Okan supervises the 2D workflow from R&D to final delivery, collaborates with visual effects and departmental supervisors and producers, and leads a talented team of compositors to create stunning photoreal imagery while having fun doing it.
