After graduating in 2001 from the University of Toronto in Film while completing production courses at Ryerson University, Jason Marlow started his career working on-set in Toronto at the I.A.T.S.E 667 camera union. It was there that he worked on various television shows including The Murdoch Mysteries and Degrassi: The Next Generation as well as films such as Siblings & Honey, all while working on independent shorts and documentaries.
Jason then decided to pursue a career in visual effects, and after graduating in 2006 from Seneca College in Visual Effects for Film and Television, he spent four years working as a Generalist creating motion graphics, Video Production & Live Video Mixing.
In 2010 he brought his generalist background and on-set experience to teach lighting, texturing and rendering at Lifeway College in New Zealand. That lead him to Weta Digital where he spent seven years working his way up to Lead Matchmove Artist on such projects as Justice League and Independence Day: Resurgence as well as on-set Visual Effects Technical Director on The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, and Krampus. Working in production and then following the material into post-production provided a unique understanding of the process of effectively creating great visual effects.
This unique background in on-set production and a thorough knowledge of integrating live-action elements into all aspects of post-production brought Jason to Image Engine as a Matchmove Supervisor. In this role, he guides productions in finding effective working strategies that save the team a lot of time and allow Image Engine to put such amazing images on the screen.
Jason’s recent contributions at Image Engine include Thor: Ragnarok, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
