Angela Magrath brings over 15 years of experience to her role as Rigging and Creature FX Supervisor.
After graduating from Bournemouth University with a BA in 3D Computer Visualization and Animation in 2004, Angela began her career in visual effects as a Matchmove and Rotoanimation Artist on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire for Moving Picture Company (MPC) in London. She then moved into Rigging, and after a couple of years she started to specialize in facial rigging.
In 2008 Angela moved to Vancouver to work at Image Engine where she created all the facial rigging on Academy Award-nominated film, District 9. Upon completion of this project, she moved on to MPC Vancouver as Rigging Lead on Percy Jackson and ended up staying with the studio for over ten years.
During her time at MPC, Angela took on a variety of roles with increasing levels of responsibility. These include Head of Rigging and Creature FX, Global Head of TechAnim, and CG Supervisor for Game of Thrones. She then took time off to start a family and upon her return took on the role of Head of Creature FX and FX.
With many fantastic projects under her belt including Maleficent, Godzilla, Jack the Giant Slayer, and Life of Pi, Angela highlights Life of Pi and Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian as two favourites. She had the great responsibility of being the sole facial rigger on the latter where she got to build facial rigs for roughly 20 animals.
Angela rejoined Image Engine in 2019 to take on the role of Rigging and Creature FX Supervisor. As head of the department, she collaborates cross-departmentally with Animation and FX and sets the creative direction for her team to execute on the studio’s many outstanding rigging and creature effects.
