Dave Morley
Visual Effects Supervisor

VES Award Nominee 2014

Dave’s career in visual effects spans over 20 years. Starting out in commercials as a Flame compositor in Sydney, Australia, he soon discovered a love for longform television and feature film visual effects.

In 2001, after working on Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge as Senior Inferno Artist at Animal Logic, Dave became one of the partners at Fuel Visual Effects. Although he continued to deliver commercial work, Dave also gained a reputation as the goto visual effects supervisor for feature films, working on over 23 Australian feature productions.

After completing heavy CG-driven work as Co-Visual Effects Supervisor on Greg McLean’s Rogue – which received an award at the Australian Film Institute for Best Visual Effects – Dave sought a push into North America by taking on the role of Visual Effects Supervisor on Baz Luhrmann’s Australia. He then went on to lead work at Fuel on Frank Miller’s The Spirit for Lionsgate. Dave’s relationship flourished with Frank, with the pair collaborating on two Gucci commercial campaigns.

Dave has also overseen the successful delivery of Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Paramount’s Mission Impossible: The First Protocol and recently Unbroken for Universal, with the latter earning him a Visual Effects Society nomination for Best Supporting Visual Effects.

Dave now serves as a Visual Effects Supervisor at Image Engine, where he recently completed work on Point Break, Power Rangers and Thor: Ragnarok.

His strengths lie in an eye for detail and a dedication to polish that he gained during his time as a compositor, but his skills stretch further than that: Dave has a complete understanding of the entire visual effects pipeline, and is more than comfortable in any production situation. His cool head, calm demeanor and never-ending passion for the work are always welcome when working under tight deadlines.
